#ICYMI: AFWERX Prime partner Reliable Robotics is teaming up with the United States Air Force to push the boundaries of autonomous aviation, advancing cutting-edge capabilities for the United States Department of the Air Force. ?? Through a new Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA), Reliable is supporting the evolution of the Autonomy-Government Reference Architecture (A-GRA)—a scalable, multi-mission autonomy framework critical to the DAF’s vision for Autonomous Collaborative Platforms (ACP). “Commercial solutions are critical to the A-GRA to enable terminal area integration, and for operationally acceptable detect and avoid,” said Maj. What began as a grassroots AFWERX Spark initiative through Project Arc has grown into a scalable solution—thanks to support from the AFWERX Refinery and secured buy-in from the F-16 System Program Office (SPO). An Airmen-led team developed and certified 3D-printed cockpit panels using high-performance polyetherimide (PEI) thermoplastic material, enabling localized, on-demand sustainment across the fleet. With backing from the F-16 SPO, the team is establishing a formal process to validate parts, manage internal United States Air Force engineering approvals, and distribute to field units. To scale this effort Air Force-wide, the team now works with the Rapid Sustainment Office’s (RSO) Advanced Manufacturing team to scale the effort across qualified printers and certified technicians. ?? The Spark X Joint Base Andrews Innovation and Idea Center is showing how small teams can drive big change — leveraging 3D printing and open-source design to shape the future of unmanned systems, one drone at a time. Partnering with the US Army, the SparkX Cell helped redesign Project SPECTRE (Small Printable-Engineered-Composites Tailorable Remote-Effect) — an experimental initiative to develop rapidly deployable, customizable small unmanned aircraft systems.
