Transformational business executive and leader in consumer finance, I bring nearly four decades of corporate experience building purpose driven teams, creating solutions to complex problems and serving as an innovative leader and change agent.
A foremost expert on financial literacy and corporate management, I am proud of the recognition I have received for my leadership in simultaneously addressing business objectives and critical social issues, advocating for new investors while expanding market reach, and making the industry more inclusive and accessible.
Colleagues and peers describe me as an active listener and thoughtful yet straightforward communicator who effortlessly approaches and connects with a diverse range of people from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
My current position on the Board of Directors and the Risk Committee of Charles Schwab Corporation is a testament to my extensive experience in financial services, corporate marketing, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategy and policy. As a member of the Risk Committee, I am responsible for overseeing a wide range of risk factors, a role that underscores my comprehensive understanding of the industry and my ability to navigate complex financial landscapes.
I have served two White House administrations, under Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush, advising on financial capability policy. Under my leadership, I have created more access for more Americans to become financially secure, including creating a nation-wide financial literacy program in partnership with leading nonprofits, such as Boys and Girls Club of America, Girl Scouts, AARP Foundation, and Teach for America.
For over two decades, I wrote a nationally syndicated personal finance column, “Ask Carrie”, to simplify money management for four million readers. My second book, “The Charles Schwab Guide to Finances after Fifty” (Crown Business, 2014), was named by the New York Times as one of the top three books on long-term investing.
