Today, we’re proud to announce that Edera has raised a $5m seed round led by 645 Ventures and Eniac Ventures, with participation from FPV Ventures. Our angel investors include Joe Beda, co-creator of Kubernetes, Go cryptography maintainer Filippo Valsorda, and Elastic CISO Mandy Andress, among others. With their backing, we're embarking on our first big mission: to fix container security. Kubernetes has changed the world, but the decade-long container security problem hasn't changed much at all. An entire industry has grown around container security monitoring that doesn’t stop security incidents from occurring and instead alerts for intrusions that have already happened. We think there’s a better way. At Edera, we’re building state-of-the-art container isolation technology at the architecture layer to enable the dream of secure multi-tenancy in Kubernetes. Running a cluster with disparate workloads unlocks unprecedented efficiency and cost savings. As a result, everything is multitenant. When we met with Joe Beda, the co-creator of Kubernetes and Edera angel investor, about container isolation, it was clear we were onto something when he said: “The original design goals for Kubernetes were for ‘soft’ multi-tenancy where there was a level of trust between users of a cluster. But as Kubernetes has found its way into more domains, the need for stronger security protections has become apparent. Edera fills this gap by using virtualization to both reduce risks and, ultimately, reduce costs. It allows Kubernetes to go places it has never gone before!” We’ve talked to organizations with entire teams focused on container isolation and multi-tenancy security, knowing that getting it wrong is devastating to their core business. Getting it right enables customer security and millions of dollars in savings on cloud spend. Secure multi-tenancy requires intentional engineering to craft a bespoke container isolation configuration. There hasn’t been an easy button—until now. True to Kubernetes, all it takes to enable secure container isolation and adopt Edera is a couple of lines of YAML. We’ve been saying we’re just getting started, but now… we’re ready.
