The American Enterprise Institute’s Academic Programs team connects colleges and universities with AEI’s ideas and networks. We seek the renewal of healthy civic engagement on college campuses by facilitating educational and professional opportunities for students and faculty, such as the Collegiate Network and the Summer Honors Program. The AEI Collegiate Network is an intellectual home for current undergraduates to engage with AEI scholarship, connect with AEI scholars, and cultivate relationships with other public-spirited students from campuses around the nation and world. Students in the network have the opportunity to host AEI scholars for events on campus; attend exclusive conferences in Washington, DC; interview scholars on the Campus Exchange podcast; and more! The AEI Summer Honors Program is an intensive, fully-funded educational and professional development opportunity for top undergraduate students in Washington, DC. This one week program is centered on daily seminars led by AEI scholars and distinguished civic leaders, and is often completed in conjunction with summer internships or fellowships. Alumni of the Summer Honors Program are automatically accepted into the AEI Collegiate Network. In addition, we frequently host summits and seminars specific to particular topics and audiences. Examples include the Appalachian Policy Summit, Weekend Honors Programs, and the First Generation Student Forum.

Happy Monday and SHP Week 4 Recap! From July 7 to 11, students from across the country participated in the fourth and final week of our 2025 Summer Honors Program. The Week 4 keynote address, titled "Seeking Truth and Speaking Truth" was delivered by Robert P. George and moderated by Rabbi Meir Soloveichik. Thank you to our Week 4 seminar instructors: Alex Brill, Mackenzie Eaglen, Dalibor Rohac, and Rabbi Meir Soloveichik. Here's what a few Week 4 participants had to say about their week with AEI: "I had a wonderful time at the Summer Honors Program! I made meaningful connections with my peers, explored new perspectives, and learned about the nuances in the U.S. tax system. Not only did I get the chance to meet people from all around the country, but I got the chance to connect with them on a deeper level. I was taught to learn the nuances of political issues, rather than adhering to the political views of my peers." "I had the absolute best week and feel like I am leaving with not only a new found depth of understanding of Defense Policy, but an invaluable network of peers and professionals." "I really enjoyed the professional and intellectual experience of the program. The other students were very engaged and respectful of one another in discussion, making for a great conversational environment. The structure of the seminar allowed for free through and open questions, where I was never anxious to ask questions or participate. Lastly, the programming was relevant and interesting, making every part of our schedule intentional." It was a great summer and we are already looking forward to next year.

A look back on SHP Week 3! From June 23 to 27, students spent the week with AEI participating in seminars, hearing from scholars, and getting to know one another. The Week 3 keynote address was delivered by AEI Distinguished Senior Fellow Lynne Cheney, who discussed "Why History Matters." Thank you to our Week 3 SHP instructors: Bradford Wilcox & Jenet Erickson, Kori Schake, Christine Rosen, John Yoo, and Roger Pielke, Jr. Below are a few reflections from SHP Week 3 participants: "SHP was the intellectual safe haven that I didn't know I needed. In one short week, I feel rejuvenated not only about my passion for curiosity, but also of the pursuit of improving the welfare of the nation. AEI provided every tool necessary for a developmental environment, and I find myself wishing that this program was longer." "This was a wonderful experience. I was impressed by how down to earth and open to debate every student I met was. The students in my class, both during and outside of the actual class time, had some of the best, most honest (and always very respectful) discussions I've ever had with people my age." "Attending the Summer Honors Program was enriching. I loved the opportunity to meet new people who share my passion for learning and to explore complex ideas together. The program challenged me academically while also creating space for reflection and community. It reignited my love for asking deep questions and reminded me of the joy that comes from learning with others."

Excited to share our SHP Week 2 recap! This week featured seminars taught by Zack Cooper, Benjamin Storey, Michael McShane, and Yuval Levin. Students also attended a keynote address by AEI Senior Fellow Kori Schake, heard from a variety of scholars during lunchtime plenary sessions, and explored the city through the DC Challenge. Below are a few reflections from SHP Week 2 Students: "SHP was, to me, a perfect example of what constructive dialogue among college students can and should be." "SHP was a fantastic opportunity to gather with other students who are passionate about ideas and their effects on public policy. More than anything, this program left me re-invigorated to pursue the passions that I have for the common good. I also really loved getting to know AEI and the work they do. In such trying times, it is comforting to know that there are serious, competent people thinking, debating, and engaging with the most pressing political issues in our country." Thanks to all those who joined us in DC from June 9 to 13!

SHP Week 1 Recap!!! From June 2 to 6, students from across the country participated in policy seminars, forged friendships with public-spirited peers, and heard from a wide variety of experts at AEI and throughout Washington, DC. It was a wonderful start to our annual Summer Honors Program! A special thank you to our Week 1 instructors: Angela Rachidi & Robert Doar, Michael Strain, David & Elizabeth Corey, Paul Miller, and Michael Rubin. Here's what a few Week 1 participants had to say about their experience: "The AEI Summer Honors Program was one of the best academic and intellectual experiences I have ever had. Whether it was the rigor and depth of the classes, my incredibly smart peers, or the extracurricular programming from the AEI Academic Programs team, the whole week was truly awesome. I feel like I have come away with not only a very deep understanding of my cohort's topic, but a renewed sense of what it means to be a thoughtful, open-minded, intellectually-focused learner and professional." "I had an absolutely phenomenal time. I found SHP welcoming, intellectually challenging, and incredibly supportive. I walked away with a new network of professional connections, refined ideas (as well as a few changed opinions), and a better understanding of my next steps. Not to mention a camera roll full of photos." "The most valuable aspect of SHP was the opportunity to engage with scholars who hold diverse perspectives. At my university, many of my peers and professors tend to share similar viewpoints, and the kinds of conversations I had at SHP would simply not be possible there.?"
