关于我们
We are members of the newly formed Greater New York City-BNA Chapter of the National Black Nurses Association, located in the heart of the Big Apple. We are inviting you to join our chapter of the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA). NBNA membership is open to all nurses who possess an active Registered Nurse (RN) or vocational/practical (LVN/LPN) license and current nursing students at all levels. NBNA was organized in 1971 under the leadership of Dr. Lauranne Sams, former Dean and Professor of Nursing, School of Nursing at Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama. NBNA is a non-profit organization incorporated on September 2, 1972 in the state of Ohio. NBNA represents 200,000 African American registered nurses, licensed vocational/practical nurses, nursing students and retired nurses from the USA, Eastern Caribbean and Africa, with over 100 chartered chapters, in 35 states. The National Black Nurses Association’s mission is “to represent and provide a forum for Black nurses to advocate and implement strategies to ensure access to the highest quality of healthcare for persons of color”. We provide services to various communities via health fairs, scholarships, health screenings, professional development, and speaker events. These are a few highlights of our services and programs: ? When community, care, and collaboration come together — lives are impacted. We had a powerful collaboration between Greater New York City - Black Nurses Association The Mount Sinai Hospital and Real Dads Network with support from LiveOnNY and AstraZeneca’s ACT on Health Equity initiative. Thanks to Caroline Austin-Mattison, DNP, RN, FNP-BC and Monique McKnight-Meacham, MSN, MSN-Ed, RN-BC for leading this initiative alongside Dr. Icilma Fergus Rowe. Together, we brought hypertension and amyloidosis screenings and education directly to the community with a focus on men’s health. Participants diagnosed with hypertension received blood pressure machines, MetroCards, and referrals to support ongoing care and follow-up. #Health equity— meeting people where they are, building trust, and removing barriers to care. Thank you to everyone who made this impactful event possible.
