???We are excited to share that LanzaTech's Project DRAGON in the United Kingdom has been awarded ￡6.4 million from the UK government’s Advanced Fuels Fund! This significant support will enable us to advance the creation of two pioneering commercial-scale plants, DRAGON 1 & 2, dedicated to producing #SustainableAviationFuel (SAF). ? The acronym DRAGON represents our mission: Decarbonizing and Reimagining Aviation for the Goal Of Netzero. DRAGON 1, our ongoing UK SAF project, will use recycled carbon fuel ethanol - including that derived from LanzaTech’s innovative gas fermentation process - to produce Advanced SAF in Port Talbot, South Wales through the LanzaJet? Alcohol-to-Jet (AtJ) technology. For DRAGON 2, we are developing a Power-to-Liquid (PtL) facility that will transform waste carbon dioxide and green hydrogen into ethanol, which will then be converted into PtL SAF at a nearby site using the same LanzaJet? AtJ technology. ? We will finalize the location for DRAGON 2 in the UK as this grant-aided project progresses.?We extend our deepest thanks to the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom and Aviation Minister Mike Kane for their unwavering support of SAF. And that’s a wrap for me for this year's London Climate Action Week! Packed with enlightening conversations about upscaling groundbreaking climate-tech innovations—a huge shoutout to BloombergNEF, Novo Holdings, ClimateImpact, The Earthshot Prize, and all the pioneers changing the game in energy, materials, fuels, and more. Meeting new faces and reconnecting with old friends added to the joy and optimism of the week and I was lucky enough to kick it off at a fabulous welcome celebration for Jason Knauf LVO as the new CEO of the The Earthshot Prize during a special evening hosted by the the Earthshot Prize Board. (David Fein and Liz Oestreich thank you for welcoming us all to your beautiful home). I spent much of the week talking about FOAK financing and the challenges of capital deployment for novel tough tech in the current climate (no pun intended). I did often find myself starting remarks with “I don’t want to be a doom monger but…,” but on the whole the vibe was ultimately upbeat. I shared insights from LanzaTech’s experiences on FOAK financing, listened intently to the challenges others face in Europe (its not just us!), and noted the shift of many innovators towards Asia for more favorable financing and regulatory conditions. A warm thank you to the entire The Earthshot Prize team, Marcus REMMERS and Cynthia Kueppers from Novo Holdings, Richard Delevan from Wicked Problems, Stephen Murphy and the ClimateImpact Team, and Claire Curry, Benjamin Kafri and the team at BNEF. I often find these weeks tough as we can run the risk of getting bogged down in the challenges to yet be overcome but overall, I would say that this week has reinforced my belief in the power of collaboration and innovation in driving us towards a better future. Let’s keep pushing the boundaries of what's possible!
